How to Make a Footprint Father’s Day Card
1. Stamp the footprints.
Before you begin, set up your workspace.
Gather up white cardstock, green tempera paint, medium paintbrush, along with baby wipes, clean rags, and a large bowl or dish of warm, soapy water. We like to use a stepstool or low kid’s chair to make the stamping process as smooth as possible.
Once your workspace is set up, apply a coat of green non-toxic tempera paint onto the bottom of your child’s foot. Guide them in stamping their foot onto a piece of white cardstock, pressing it down to create a print.
Apply more paint to create another print – each card needs one footprint.
Allow the painted footprints to dry and help your child wash the paint off of their foot in the warm, soapy water.
2. Add the golf course details.
Use a fine brush and light blue paint to add a rounded pond to one side of the footprint.
Similarly, use beige paint to add a sand trap on another side of the footprint. Let all the paint dry completely.
3. Create the paper card.
Once the paint has dried, cut out around the footprint, leaving a narrow white border.
Apply glue to the back of the footprint art and stick it onto a piece of green cardstock.
To turn it into a card: leave enough space on one side of the footprint.
Fold the green cardstock in half so that the painted footprint is close to the fold, but some green cardstock is still visible there.
Cut out around the footprint, through both layers of the green cardstock. Make sure to leave the folded edge intact!
4. Add the flagstick and hole.
Use a hole punch to make a small circle from black cardstock. Cut a very narrow rectangle (about 2″ long by 1/8″ wide) for the stick, and a tiny triangle from red cardstock for the flag.
Glue the tiny black circle onto the green footprint and glue the pole on top so that it sticks off the edge of the card. Finally, glue the red flag to the end of the pole.
5. Write a message inside.
Write a message inside the card. Here are a few Father’s Day golf pun ideas:
- “Fore! the most amazing Dad!”
- “You are the best Dad by par!”
- “Simply putt, you are the best Dad ever!”
- “Have a tee-riffic Father’s Day!”
And don’t forget to write your child’s name and the date on the back of the card too!
