Supplies Needed
- White cardstock – for stamping footprints on
- Colored paper – light blue
- Non-toxic tempera paint – brown, red, yellow, pink, white, and black
- Paintbrushes – medium and fine
- Scissors
- Glue stick
How to Make a Robin Footprint
1. Create the stamped footprint.
Begin by setting up your workspace – we like to place the white cardstock on the floor in front of a small chair or step stool. Gather up clean rags, baby wipes, and a large bowl of warm soapy water.
Apply a coat of brown non-toxic tempera paint onto the bottom of your child’s foot and guide them in stamping their foot onto the white cardstock.
Lift their foot up from the paper and apply another coat of paint to make another stamp. Repeat this process as many times as you’d like, using the warm water and rags to wash the paint off your child’s foot when complete.
2. Add the red robin tummy.
Use red paint and a medium-sized brush to paint a red curved tummy onto the footprint, filling in the empty arch with a red bump.
3. Add the yellow details.
Use yellow paint and a fine paintbrush to add a beak and 2 feet onto the robin.
4. Paint on the face.
Dip the back of a pencil into white paint and stamp on a circle eye onto the heel. Once the white paint has dried, using the back of a smaller paintbrush to dab a small black dot onto the eye.
To make the rosy cheeks, dip the end of a pencil into pink paint and stamp it next to the eye. Allow the paint to dry.
5. Cut out the bird.
Use scissors to cut out around each bird, leaving a white border visible.
Apply glue to the back of the robin and press it onto a bright colored paper – we used a shade of robin’s egg blue. Cut out around this paper, again leaving a thin border around the entire shape.
Your spring robins are complete! Don’t forget to write your child’s name and the date on the back!
