These are a super fun activity to make at home this February, whether you frame them for keeping around the home, give them to loved ones, or even send them in the mail. Handmade Valentine keepsakes have never been easier!

Supplies Needed
- Valentine’s Day Handprint Printables – get them sent to your email at the bottom of this post!
- Non-Toxic Tempera Paint– in red, pink, and black
- Paintbrushes – medium
- Round foam stamp brushes – for the ladybug spots (you could also use a cotton swab or the eraser-end of a pencil)

How to Make Valentine’s Day Handprint Art
1. Set up your painting area.
Select the designs you’d like to use and print them out onto white paper or white cardstock. Set them aside for now.
Gather up your colors and brushes – we used red and two shades of pink for the handprints. You’ll also need black paint later for final details.
Fill a large bowl or dish with warm soapy water and bring it to your workstation along with some clean rags, towels, baby wipes, and paper towels for easy clean-up.
2. Make the handprints.
Most of the designs are basic handprints, so they are quick and easy to do! Simply apply the non-toxic tempera paint onto your child’s hand with a brush and guide their hand to press a print onto the page.

Help them remove their hand and wash off any excess paint. If doing more than one page, reapply paint as needed between pages and then do a hand wash when done or switching colors.

3. For the multi-handprint designs.
A few of the designs feature more than one handprint. For the butterfly, make one handprint with one hand, and then do the other handprint with your child’s other hand.

For the bouquet, do one handprint at a time. We did the light pink handprint first, then switched to the other hand to do the second handprint shown below.

Pick a third color for the final flower, and make that final print. If possible, wait a few minutes between the handprints to prevent the colors from mixing in the overlapping areas while the paint is still wet.

4. For the ladybug design.
Just like the other designs, stamp a handprint for the ladybug’s body and set aside to dry.

Once dry, use a round foam stamper (or a cotton swab or the eraser-end of a pencil) to stamp black spots on the handprint. Let dry completely.

Your Valentine’s Day Handprint Art is now complete! Frame the design or glue onto a colored cardstock background for gift giving.

Once the paint has dried, don’t forget to write your child’s name and the date on the back of each page!
