RELATED: Paper Heart Chain

If crafting with little ones, you can use tape instead of staples. Toddlers and little kids can even decorate white construction paper by adding designs to the strips of paper before you staple them together.

Not only are these easy and fun to make but you can hang the paper heart garland up on a window or bulletin board this Valentine’s Day.

Supplies Needed
- Construction paper
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Stapler

How to Make a Paper Heart Garland
1. Mark your lines.
With your construction paper in landscape orientation, measure 12 one-inch strips and mark them lightly with a ruler. We made marks at the top and bottom of each page to keep our lines nice and straight.

2. Cut the paper strips.
Use scissors to cut along your lines. You can also use a paper cutter to make nice, straight cuts.

3. Fold a strip in half.
Once you have all the strips cut for all the colors of construction paper that you want for your chain, it’s time to make your chain! Begin by folding a strip in half.

4. Form a heart.
Then, bend each end of the folded strip towards the middle and staple them together to form a heart.
If you don’t want to use a stapler you can glue or tape the heart together.

5. Add another strip.
Pick the next strip in your pattern and fold it in half, then open it up.
Slide one end through the first heart you made and then bend the ends towards the middle and staple them together.

Keep going!
Form a chain by putting an end of each new strip inside the previous heart you made on the chain… bend and staple!

Once you have made a long chain, hang it up to display your beautiful work of art! This chain can be used as garland for decoration, or it can be used to count down to a special occasion. You can tear a new chain each day to count down!
