How to Make these Halloween Handprint Printables
1. Set up your painting space.
- Choose your Halloween designs and print them out on white paper or cardstock.
- Grab your paint colors – we used orange, green, black, and purple.
- Fill a large bowl or dish with warm, soapy water and bring it to your workstation. You’ll also want some clean rags, towels, baby wipes, and paper towels. This will help make clean-up as easy as possible, especially for the footprint art.
- If you are doing the footprint art pages, bring a low stool or child-sized chair to the painting area.
2. Paint the handprint designs.
Apply non-toxic tempera paint onto the palm of your child’s hand.

Guide your child’s hand down onto the paper, helping them place their hand in line with the design.

Carefully help them remove their hand from the page. If the design only needs one handprint, help your child wash off the paint with warm, soapy water.
For the designs that need 2 handprints, apply more paint onto their hand and stamp again onto the paper. When done stamping, set the papers aside to dry.

3. Paint the footprint designs.
Make sure that your workspace is set up and ready – this is easiest if your child sits on a low stool and you put the blank design on the ground so that you can paint the bottom of their foot easily. Apply non-toxic tempera paint onto the bottom of their foot and help them stamp their foot onto the page.

For the bat, you only need one footprint, but for the “trick or treat” design, make sure to do both feet. Once done, help your child wash their feet in the dish of warm, soapy water. Set the papers aside to dry.
4. Add face details.
Once the painted hand and footprints are dry, you can add the final face details!
For the witch, glue down 2 googly eyes and draw on a nose, mouth, and hair with black marker. Add pink rosy cheeks with pink paint. You can dip the back of a paintbrush or pencil and dab them onto the face to make the pink cheeks.

For the bat, use the black marker to draw eyes and a mouth. A white paint marker is perfect for drawing on little fangs! You can also paint them on with white paint.
To make the bat’s pointed ears, use matching purple paint and a brush to paint the ears on top of your child’s footprint.

For the spider, use glue to attach 2 googly eyes and a white paint marker to draw on a small mouth with fangs. Use pink paint and the end of a paintbrush or pencil to dab on the rosy, pink cheeks.

Your Halloween handprint and footprint art is complete! Don’t forget to write your child’s name and the date on the back!
