Turn white pumpkins into the cutest Fingerprint Pumpkins this Halloween! This is the perfect way to celebrate Halloween with little ones if you’re looking for a mess-free option over carving pumpkins.

There are so many cute designs that you can fingerpaint onto pumpkins – we went with jack-o-lanterns, pastel ghosts, witches, and Frankensteins.

We suggest keeping these painted pumpkins inside to make sure they last until Halloween. Since tempera paint is non-toxic and extremely easy to wash off, these pumpkins won’t do well out in the elements.
To keep these for longer, instead of using real pumpkins, follow the same steps on fake pumpkins.

Supplies Needed
- White pumpkins
- Non-toxic tempera paint – orange, green, pink, blue, purple, black, and grey
- Paintbrushes – medium and fine
- Black permanent marker

How to Make Fingerprint Art Pumpkins
Witch
Apply green non-toxic tempera paint onto your child’s thumb (fingers work too, but using their thumb will make the biggest print). Guide them to stamp a print onto the white pumpkin.

Repeat this all over the pumpkin and help your child wash the paint off their hands.

Once the green paint has dried, paint a black witch hat onto the top of each dot.

Use orange paint to add hair onto each witch.

To finish them off, use a black permanent marker to draw a face on each witch.

Ghost
Brush purple non-toxic tempera paint onto your child’s thumb and help them stamp their thumb onto the pumpkin.

Do this a few times all over the pumpkin and then help your child wash their hands. Repeat this process with blue and pink paint until the entire pumpkin is covered with pastel dots.

Let the pastel dots dry completely and then use black paint or a black permanent marker to make ghost faces on each dot.

Jack-o-Lantern
Apply orange non-toxic tempera paint onto your child’s thumb and help them stamp horizontal dots onto a white pumpkin.

Repeat this all over the pumpkin and let the orange paint dry.

Use a fine paintbrush to paint green stems on top of each orange dot.

To finish them up, use a black permanent marker to draw jack-o-lantern faces onto each dot.

Frankenstein
Brush green non-toxic tempera paint onto your child’s thumb and help them stamp it onto the white pumpkin.

Repeat this all over the pumpkin and let the paint dry.

Use a fine paintbrush or black permanent marker to add black hair onto the top of each green dot.

Then add bolts onto either side of his head with grey paint.

To add his ears, use the same green paint to add a small dot on either side of his head below the bolts.

Finally, use a black permanent marker to draw on Frankenstein’s face to each dot.

Your fingerprint art pumpkins are complete!
We recommend keeping them as indoor pumpkins as tempera paint will wash off if rained on.
Alternatively, try this on some fake pumpkins!
