- Paintbrushes – medium and fine
- Black marker
How to Make Thanksgiving Handprint Art
1. Prepare your painting area.
- Print the designs onto white paper or white cardstock and set them aside for now.
- Gather up your paint colors – we used orange, yellow, brown, and green.
- Fill a large dish or bowl with warm soapy water and bring it to your work station along with a few clean rags, towels, baby wipes, and paper towels. Getting this ready now will help make clean-up as smooth as possible.
- If you are doing the footprint designs, bring a short stool or child-sized chair to the painting area as well.
2. Paint the handprint designs.
Apply non-toxic tempera paint onto your child’s palm.

Guide them in stamping their hand onto the paper and help them press their hand down firmly to make a handprint.

Lift their hand off of the paper and help them wash their hands with warm, soapy water. Set the painted paper aside to dry.
3. Paint the footprint designs.
Have your child sit on a low stool or chair and paint non-toxic tempera paint onto the bottom of their foot. Help them stamp it onto the page, pressing their foot down to get a good footprint.

Help them lift their foot off the paper and rest their foot in the dish of warm soapy water, using a cloth to wash the paint off.

For this pumpkin pie design, apply the same orange paint onto the other foot and stamp down again.

Remove and wash the second foot and set the paper aside to dry completely.

4. Add the final details.
Once the handprint has dried, use a black marker to draw a little eye on the thumb to look like the turkey’s eye. Then paint on the beak with orange paint and the waddle and head detail with red paint. Let dry.

Your Thanksgiving Handprint Art is complete!
