With autumn just around the corner we’re busy making tons of fun fall activities for you and the kids! First up is this pumpkin pie playdough recipe. Not only will the kids love helping you make this playdough, but your house will smell like pumpkin spice after too! Scented playdough is a great way to add an additional sensory experience to a playdough activity. By adding some pumpkin spice to this playdough recipe – your kids can pretend they are making and serving their very own pumpkin pie!

You can easily make this pumpkin pie playdough with ingredients you already have in your kitchen! The best part about making homemade playdough is that it is so soft and easy to play with. We find it often outlasts the store bought stuff too. And it will keep for quite some time by just keeping it stored in an air locked container or bag.

Here are some activity ideas to do with your pumpkin playdough:

– Have your child roll out the pumpkin playdough

– Fill a pie pan with the playdough and create the crust

– Use a toy pie cutter and cut the pie into pieces

– Plate your pumpkin pie to serve to your guests

– Add some “whip cream” on top with a cotton ball

Pumpkin Pie Playdough Recipe

1 tbs cooking oil
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 cup plain flour
1/2 cup salt
orange food coloring
1 cup water
1 tsp pumpkin pie spice mix

Note: Adults should cook the playdough. Kids can help you mix the ingredients before cooking!

This playdough is taste safe as all the ingredients used are edible, however we do not recommend ingesting any of it. Please only allow children to play with it that are old enough to not put things in their mouth.

In a large pot, add in vegetable oil, food color, and water (add food coloring to water first so it’s easier to mix in), stir.

In a large bowl, combine all dry ingredients and mix well. Or individually add your spices and then your salt and flour as show in the video. Add dry ingredients to your pan for cooking.

Cook over medium heat until the dough starts to form and becomes dry.

Now let cool and then knead. If the dough feels sticky, add a bit more flour. If you would like more scent, you can add more pumpkin pie spice mix and knead in.

Now add your fun! Add some cotton balls on top for pretend play.
