Make these charms for holidays, as a fun rainy day activity, or as a gift! Personalize with names or your favorite sayings, then hang on backpacks or anywhere you’d like!

You can even add to bags or purses.

Supplies Needed
- Waxed string – 1mm in diameter. If you go with thicker string/cord just keep in mind some beads may not fit on the string.
- Scissors
- Letter beads – the square style has larger holes making it easier to loop the string through.
- Charms -optional to add them for decoration. We like this pack of smiley face charms.

How to Make DIY Backpack Charms
1. Cut the waxed string.
Cut a length of waxed string for your charm. A length of about 20 inches was a great length for the charms we made. You can also make them a little longer and trim off any extra string at the ends.

2. Fold the string and loop through the clasp.
Fold the string in half and place the folded end inside the swivel circle of the lobster claw clasp.

3. Tie a knot.
Take the two ends of the string and thread through the loop. Pull tight and it should form a knot around the clasp.

4. String beads on.
You can add letter beads, round beads, pony beads, or even small beads to each separate string.

5. Tie a knot.
Once you’ve reached the end of your beads, tie 1-2 knots and pull it snug, right up underneath the last bead.

If desired, finish off each end of the waxed string by tying a simple knot. Trim the ends as needed.

Add extra charms to the lobster clasp as decoration.
These turn out so cute! Make one or make a whole batch to hand out to friends and family.
